What is Angel's Wings? Angel's Wings is a non-profit organization that offers alternative residential placement for infants and children of offenders here in the Indianapolis area. Why Angel's Wings? When a woman has a child while she is incarcerated, and there is no one to care for the child, her parental rights can be terminated indefinitely. Angel's Wings works to keep the family unit together. What does Angel's Wings offer? Angel's Wings, Inc offers a place for the children of offenders to live while their parents are incarcerated. We also keep the family unit intact by taking the child (ren) to visit their incarcerated parent weekly. Angel's Wings provides a mentor for the mother through her pregnancy and beyond as well as mentors for the children. Angel's Wings also provides after care referrals to mothers once they are released and are reunited with their children. How can I help? Angel's Wings, Inc is constantly looking for volunteers. Volunteers work directly with the children at the facility, they are mentors to the child (ren) and the mother. Because we are a non-profit organization, Angel's Wings is also in need of donations to help with the cost of taking care of the children. This can include monetary donations, but is not limited to dollars. Donations can be given in the form of infant and child clothing, toys, books, strollers, high chairs, car seats, walkers, bedding, paper products, toiletries and the list goes on. This doesn't affect me, why should I care? This does affect you! Children who have an incarcerated parent are SIX TIMES more likely to commit a crime by the time they are 18, especially if they are not given a firm foundation from which to start. Not to mention, when these parents are released from prison and are reunited with their child, this new family unit will become your neighbors. How can I get more information?
