Angel's Wings has received a $25,000 Grant from the Central Indiana Community Foundation, Women's Fund of Central Indiana to support the programs of the Wee Ones Nursery at the Indiana Women's Prison!!
This is a one-year grant and will provide supplies and equipment for the infants who are able to live with their mothers inside the prison. It will also provide some child development training for the new mothers. This is an awesome opportunity and we are happy to help! Since Angel's Wings is 100% volunteer-driven, this grant will be used to support programs at IWP!
If you'd like to make a donation of infant supplies for the WON, please contact us at wendi@angelswingsinc.org. The biggest needs are formula, diapers, and hygiene-type supplies.
Kelli's Kloset
Our in-prison baby showers are usually scheduled for the last Friday in January, May, and September. The total cost to sponsor a baby shower is approximately $1200, but we accept all donations. This is an important event for the Family Preservation Center at the women's prison. It provides some much-needed supplies for these infants and their caregivers. If you would like to know more about how to sponsor an in-prison baby shower, please contact us at info@angelswingsinc.org. If you would like to learn more about the programs of Kelli's Kloset, click here. If you are interested in sponsoring a shower, please click here for a sponsorship flyer.
In January, 2010, we will celebrate FIVE YEARS of providing these families with much-needed supplies for their newborns!
Mentors for Moms
The Mentors for Moms sub-committee has been busy putting together a volunteer mentor training manual and working on the details for our very first mentor training. We are hoping to have at least five expectant mothers at the Indiana Women’s Prison matched with a volunteer mentor this year. We are currently looking for volunteer mentors! Contact us at info@angelswingsinc.org.
Temporary Housing for Infants
The Advisory Board & volunteers of Angel’s Wings are always looking at new and exciting ways to assist pregnant and recently-delivered mothers who are incarcerated. One need we have been able to fulfill is providing temporary placement for new baby while mother is incarcerated. For those mothers who qualify for our program, it is an awesome way we can help keep these families together. There have been several families assisted by this program over the past four years.
Angel's Wings has a new program at the Indiana Women's Prison! We have specially-trained volunteers who are providing case management services to the pregnant or recently-delivered incarcerated mothers. We started this program on Nov. 9, 2010 and met with SIX offenders who will be released soon. We will be serving as advocates on the outside for these families by providing re-entry assistance and referral information to help them be a success upon their release. We want to reduce the recidivism (rate of return to prison) of these Moms, especially for the children's sake!
